We only read two books because the kids were restless.
We did not do this either, but I would like to the next time I do this storytime)
“Rocketship Run“ by The Laurie Berkner Band
1. Rocket Fuel – The activity was the classic baking soda/vinegar experiment. I put a tablespoon of baking soda and a squirt of dish soap in 3oz plastic cups and gave each child a pipette to squirt vinegar into the cup. After a few tries of that, the children poured a larger amount of vinegar into the cup, which dramatically increased the foam.
2. Straw Rockets – I copied this from the school age science camp we did several weeks ago. With parental help, the children wrapped a strip of paper loosely around a straw, taping it at the bottom. Then they took the paper off the straw, folded the untaped end down, and taped it. I printed out rocket templates for the children to color. When they were done, we taped them to the folded down end of the rocket. To launch, we put the rockets on the short end of a bent bendy straw, and blew into the long end. Rockets went everywhere.
